Star Wars 4, Religion in Science Fiction, Star Trek , Ender's Game
November 16, 2010
Everyone enjoyed watching Star Wars 4: A New Hope. We had a short interesting discussion about how it was originally created (before there was barely any kind of CGI) and it was a lot of fun to watch the movie again.
The Religion in Science Fiction Discussion was fascinating. We talked about how many of the most famous science fiction stories related to religion (such as Star Wars and the force). We also talked about Scientology, the religion created by science. It was a really interesting discussion and a lot of people enjoyed it.
We watched the Star Trek episodes Let That be your Last Battlefield (from the original series) and Eye of the Needle (from the Next Generation). I personally am a huge Trekkie so I loved watching the original series (my series of choice) and one of our members provided the eye of the needle episode (her series of choice). A lot of our members who had never seen an episode of Star Trek (meaning most of them) really enjoyed it an several of them have been watching more of it outside of the club! I own 4 huge binders full of the universe cards that I will bring to one of the meetings soon to let people look at.
Approsimately 4 or 5 people showed up for the Ender's Game discussion. However, I believe it was one of the best discussions we've ever had. It was an excellent book and I at least am looking forward to reading Timescape by Gregory Bedford!
